How to Set up a Horror Movie Party for Teens

P.S. I got most of my supplies for this horror movie party at Oriental Trading, and you can shop for many of them on my LTKS posts HERE and HERE.

Macabre Mantel

The first thing I did was make the area around my TV (above the mantel) full of themed decorations. This is where the teens will be focusing for much of the evening, after all, it should look like part of the party!

I started with a red and black balloon garland embellished with spiky silver balloons and bloody handprint balloons to one side of the mantel.

Then, I draped the mantel and the front of the fireplace with creepy black fabric. I added a scary skeleton guard in front, and then hung a garland of pretend murder weapons from red ribbon across the fireplace.

On top of the mantel, I added a Jason Voorhees mask from Friday the 13th, a Ghostface mask from Scream, and some disembodied hands. I also added some transparent bloody handprint window clings to the TV screen.

Scary Snacks & Frightening Favors

Next, I set up an area of the room for snacks and favors. I hung a horror movie villain bloody backdrop behind a small black table, and added Halloween movie-related news articles, postcards, and crime scene tape to the wall.

Then, I placed a black vase in the center of the table, filled with black florals except where the arrangement is stabbed by a knife – the florals surrounding the knife were blood red! The rest of the table was filled with bloody handprint favor boxes filled with horror-themed party favors, popcorn bags that featured popular horror movie villains, and more horrific Halloween props.

Spine-Chilling Sweets

The dessert table was the most fun to set up. In front of a very bloody “help me” backdrop, I set up a bloody tablecloth-covered table with a large black food board on it. On the board, I laid out a life-sized plastic skeleton. Then, I surrounded the skeleton with sweet (but spine-tingling) treats!

The gruesome treats included gummy candy in the shape of body parts, licorice rope “veins”, and “bloody” (red-frosted) cinnamon roll “guts”! I finished off the look with a giant knife stabbed right into the poor skeleton’s ribs.

Terrifying Table Setting

If you’re planning on having dinner at this delightful and disturbing soiree, you’ll want to set up an area for eating. Because my teens wanted to watch multiple movies, I decided to set up a table in the living room, in front of the TV so they didn’t have to miss any movie-watching time! I used another bloody table cloth, and created a table runner out of crime scene tape.

In the center of the table, I added some blood-edged candles on black stands, and on each end I placed small black floral arrangements.

For place settings, I placed blood-splatter plates onto dark slate chargers. Each gory place setting also got a set of red and white plastic utensils, bloody napkins and bloody paper cups. I finished them off with a blood-stained faux white rose.

Bloody Backdrop

It’s very likely the teens will want to get some pictures of this event, so you’ll definitely want to have a good photo spot! I hung red metallic fringe on a wall, and covered the top with more blood-drip edging. Then, I made a “Scream Teens” classic arrow directions sign with arrows pointing to various horror movie settings, each with images of their scary villains!

Movie Time!

Once dinner is done, photos are taken, and treats and favors are dispersed, it’s time to focus on the movie-watching. Have the teens grab their “bloody” popcorn (drizzle red icing over it), and get ready to get scared!

Don’t be surprised if you have to vacuum up some popcorn at the end of the night!
