Guide to Leatherworking Specializations (TBC Classic) (2024)

Once you reach Leatherworking skill level 225 and character level 40, you can choose one of the three Leatherworking specializations: Dragonscale, Elemental or Tribal. Each specialization gives access to a specific set of patterns.

This guide will show you the patterns you can craft with each specialization and guide you through the process of choosing a specialization.

Best Leatherworking Specialization in TBC Classic

Choosing a specialization is pretty straightforward because every item created by specializations is Bind on Pickup, meaning only you can equip them. Every other item can be crafted and worn by every specialization. Even the Classic-era recipes have had their specialization requirement removed, and you can craft all of them with all three specializations. So, basically, you should choose a specializationbased on what your class and spec can use.

• Resto and Balance Druids: Tribal
• Rogues and Feral Druids: Elemental
• Enhancement and Elemental Shamans: Dragonscale
• Hunters can choose both Elemental or Dragonscale. Elemental will give you more damage, but you will have lower mana. Also, some people might not want to wear leather armor.

1. Dragonscale Leatherworking Quest

To learn Dragonscale Leatherworking, you'll need to craft 2x Tough Scorpid Breastplate, 2xTough Scorpid Gloves, and get 10x Worn Dragonscale, then deliver them to Peter Galen / Thorkaf Dragoneye.

1.1. Total materials required

• 36x Thick Leather
• 40x Scorpid Scale
• 12x Silken Thread
• 10x Worn Dragonscale

1.2. Recipes

You can buy both recipes from the Auction House if you don't want to farm them.

• Pattern: Tough Scorpid Breastplate is dopped by Wastewander Bandit in Tanaris.
• Pattern: Tough Scorpid Gloves is dropped by Wastewander Thief also in Tanaris.

1.3. Dragonscale Leatherworking trainers

Once you crafted the 4 items, go to Peter Galen / Thorkaf Dragoneye, then accept and complete the Dragonscale Leatherworking quest.

2. Elemental Leatherworking Quest

To learn Elemental Leatherworking, you have to deliver the following items to the Elemental Leatherworking Trainer:

• 2x Globe of Water
• 2x Heart of Fire
• 2x Core of Earth
• 2x Breath of Wind

3. Tribal Leatherworking Quest

To become a Tribal Leatherworker, you must first complete the prerequisite Wild Leather quests.

3.1. Total materials required

• 214x Thick Leather
• 112x Turtle Scale
• 11x Wildvine
• 2x Cured Thick Hide

3.2. Wild Leather quests

Make sure that you have all the needed materials before you head out, or you will have to travel back to the Auction House to buy more.

Go to Feralas and find Pratt McGrubben / Jangdor Swiftstrider.

Complete all 7 of the following quests:

• Wild Leather Armor - This will open up the next five.
• Wild Leather Vest
• Wild Leather Shoulders
• Wild Leather Leggings
• Wild Leather Helmet
• Wild Leather Boots
• Master of the Wild Leather - You will get this once you complete all 6 quests above.

The Pattern: Turtle Scale Gloves is the only recipe that you have to buy. The rest of them are taught by your trainer. The quest giver NPC sells the recipe, but it's a limited supply item, so you have to wait if someone bought it before you. The re-stock time is random, but it's around 30 minutes. (or buy it from the Auction House)

Go to Darnassus / Thunder Bluff, find Telonis / Unaand complete the last quest Master of the Wild Leather.

3.3. Tribal Leatherworking Trainers

Craft 1x Wild Leather Vest and 1x Wild Leather Helmet and deliver them to Caryssia Moonhunter / Se'Jib to learn Tribal Leatherworking.

Changing Leatherworking Specialization

Changing your current specializations will cost 100 gold at level 70 and 50 gold at level 60.

1. To change your Leatherworking specialization, you first have to talk to the trainer that taught your current specialization and click on "I wish to unlearn...." (trainer locations above).
2. Now go to Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris and click on the "Soothsaying for Dummies" book located inside a hut. You can see the exact location marked in the picture below.
